Following the passing of Senator Bob Dole earlier this month, many in the disabled community are remembering the key role he played in the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990. His role in the legislation was shaped by his own personal experiences with a disability after he was injured in World War II. Severe damage to his shoulder, arm, neck, and spine meant he lost the use of his right hand and partial use of his left hand making many everyday activities difficult.
