This project was unique because the parking areas are backed up to the city sidewalk and city drive approaches making the existing ramp 8.9%, and the level clear space at the entry door are both not ADA compliant. The SF building department accepted our side ramp solution with zero comments. We were able to fit the van-accessible parking, the accessible route, and the access aisle in without tearing out the existing concrete saving the owner approximately $22,000.
Being involved in ADA design and construction has given me the opportunity to help a lot of business owners and commercial property owners prevent costly ADA compliant lawsuits.
