If a business, or a city, is found to be in violation of the ADA there are some very steep fines and penalties that can be incurred. Most will face a $75,000 fine for their first ADA incident, then $150,000 for any additional failures to comply with ADA guidelines. It is sometimes possible to negotiate a settlement that requires barrier removal to be carried out and a plan to become ADA compliant in order to reduce fees.
