ADA Concrete Done the Right Way

ADA Concrete Done the Right Way

18 November 2021 By Admin

If you own or rent a commercial property, it must be ADA compliant; otherwise, you risk facing a Federal ADA lawsuit. This applies to commercial and public properties and HOAs. The Title III guidance of the Americans with Disabilities Act sets out the appropriate guidelines for various ADA concrete issues, including accessible routes, curb ramps, parking, and more. These guidelines leave almost no margin for error, so choosing the right ADA concrete contractor is essential to ensure the job gets done right the first time around!

Did you know? Here at Protrk Construction, approximately 25% of our work is redoing work that was completed by another contractor and did not pass inspection!

Essential Factors for ADA Concrete Ramps

One of the most common ADA concrete projects we work on is installing ADA accessible ramps. There are various important factors when it comes to installing ramps that are compliant with ADA guidelines.

  • Location - Accessible ramps must be positioned close to routes that are used by the public.
  • Slope, Width & Rise - Ramps need to be able to accommodate wheelchair users and ambulatory people and must meet specific guidelines for the gradient of slope, width, and length.
  • Handrails - If an ADA concrete ramp has a rise of over 6 inches, it must have handrails on both sides.
  • Landings - Level landing areas must be at the ramp's top and bottom. These should be as wide as the ramp and at least 60 inches in length.
  • Edge Protection - Where necessary, ramps should also feature edge protection to stop wheelchairs from accidentally slipping off the edge of the ramp.

Other ADA Concrete Work

Aside from ADA Concrete ramps, some of the other projects you may require assistance on include installing ADA compliant sidewalks, accessible routes, curb ramps, and parking lots. All of these have their own requirements when it comes to ADA compliance, and you need to make sure the contractor you choose knows what needs to be done to pass a CASp inspection. Nobody wants to end up paying twice for the same job, so get it done right the first time by choosing a contractor with experience with ADA concrete.
